Gannett Acquires Digital Marketing from ReachLocal

Today, a great fad about digital marketing can be witnessed across the globe.  A number of big and small firms are doing tie-ups with the digital marketing companies. Gannett, a firm, which owns “USA TODAY” and more than one hundred other media properties in USA, said on Monday that the agreement had been reached to obtain online local marketing firm ReachLocal for about $156 million.

The deal values Woodland Hills, Cailf-based ReachLocal (RLOC) at $4.60 per share represents 188% premium over closing price of stock on Friday, June 24.

Gannett CEO Robert Dickey said in a statement, “The acquisition of ReachLocal accelerates Gannett’s digital growth strategy, adding more than $320 million of annual digital revenue, the best digital marketing solutions technology in the market, and an outstanding and well-respected management team to Gannett’s digital business,”

ReachLocal was founded in the year 2004. It provides online marketing solutions for local businesses in North America, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Europe, connecting them with prominent tech brands including Facebook and Google.

The transaction has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both the companies and is expected to be accomplished in the third quarter of the year 2016.

There are the other recent acquisitions by Gennett (GCI), which include the Milwaukee-based Journal Media Group. It includes 15 daily newspapers and their online assets.

Gannet completed the acquisition of rest of 59.36% interest in June 2015 in the Texas-New Mexico Newspapers Partnership, which it did not own from Digital First Media. The Gannet U.K. Limited-owned Newsquest obtained Romanes Media Group also in 2015. It is a local publishing enterprise that is being operated in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Berkshire.
